About Hartwell Insurance Group
Hartwell Insurance Group opened in downtown Des Moines in 2009 with appointments from four carriers. Today we hold 14, and we insure about 2,600 households and small businesses across Polk, Dallas, and Warren counties.
Independence is the whole point of the agency. A captive agent can only sell one company's policy, whatever it costs. We work the other direction: your situation goes out to 14 carriers, and the carriers compete for you. When a client's renewal comes in high, we re-shop it. In 2025, clients who switched carriers on our recommendation saved an average of $438 in the first year.
The agency is run by the same three licensed agents you reach when you call: no phone tree, no offshore call center. Our office is in Suite 310 at 512 Walnut Street, and walk-ins are welcome Monday through Friday.
